On June 20, 2023, Mr. Phiramet Vuthithornnetirak Director of Neighboring Countries Economic Development Cooperation Agency held bilateral discussions with Mr. Yuanjiang Sun, Manager, Institution Engagement and Cooperation, Operation Partnership Department. Both sides discussed the possibility of joint development cooperation in the Mekong. The AIIB has proposed that NEDA consider working together on Capacity Building and Project Preparation under the ASEAN framework, using funds from the Multilateral Cooperation Center for Development Finance (MCDF), including guidelines for joint operations in Timor-Leste. In addition, AIIB invited NEDA to attend the AIIB Annual Meeting which will be held in Egypt in September 2023, and asked NEDA to consider attending the meeting to consider the development database (platform) in the subordinate Mekong region that the AIIB has established.
