NEDA Participates in Chiang Man Bridge Project Handover in Laos
On October 8, 2024, Professor Tongthong Chandransu, Chairperson of the Neighbouring Countries Economic Development Cooperation Agency (NEDA), along with Mr. Kirati Veruwan, NEDA Vice President, attended the handover ceremony of the detailed design study for the construction of the Chiang Man-Luang Prabang Bridge in Laos. The event coincided with Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra’s official visit to the Lao People's Democratic Republic, held at the Prime Minister’s Office in Vientiane.
The Chiangman Bridge Project is a collaborative initiative where NEDA provides technical assistance to Colonel (Ret.) Saranyu Viriyavejakul, D.Sc., of the Lao PDR, in studying the feasibility of the project, designing detailed construction plans, and outlining a comprehensive financial cooperation strategy for sustainable development. This initiative follows the Output and Performance-Based Road Contract (OPBRC) model, which emphasizes performance-focused contract management. Under this model, contractors are responsible for both the construction and maintenance of the project, thereby ensuring the long-term sustainability of the development.
