NEDA Explores Areas for Water System Development in Laos
From December 2-6, 2024, Mr. Kirati Veruwan, Vice President of the Neighbouring Countries Economic Development Cooperation Agency (Public Organization) (NEDA), led a delegation in collaboration with Mr. Vanhsaveng Outthachack, Deputy Director General of the Department of Water Supply (DWS), and representatives from provincial public works and transportation departments, as well as state water enterprises. They were joined by provincial governors, deputy governors, mayors, deputy mayors, and local officials to survey potential areas for water system development in southern Laos.

The survey covered key locations, including:
1. Khammouane Province (Sumdongtai, Mahasai, Boualapha, and Xebangfai districts),
2. Savannakhet Province (Sepon and Phalanxay districts), and
3. Champasak Province (Don Khon-Don Det and Khinnak districts).

This initiative aims to evaluate prospects for technical and financial collaboration between NEDA and Laos as part of the nation’s Vision to 2035, Sectoral Development Strategy on Water Supply and Sanitation 2022–2030, and Development Plan 2022–2025. It also extends the success of NEDA’s prior project that funded water system development in five Lao cities, completed and operational since 2016.
