Mr. Perames Vudthitornetiraks, President of Neighbouring Countries Economic Development Cooperation Agency (Public Organization) (NEDA), along with representatives from NEDA, participated in discussions with senior officials to set directions on economic diplomacy with countries in the Greater Mekong Subregion for post-coronavirus disease (COVID-19). The event was organized by the Department of International Economic Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs at Vithes Samosorn Ballroom on 3rd July 2020.
In this regard, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as the organization responsible for the policy implementation of “Economic Diplomacy,” arranged the discussion. Mrs. Busaya Mathelin, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, acted as chairman of the discussion with senior representatives from government agencies, state enterprises and the private sector. The aim of the discussion was to brainstorm the opinions of senior representatives from each organization, who play an important role in moving forward the economic affairs in the Greater Mekong Subregion, to set directions for economic diplomacy in the Greater Mekong Subregion in the time following the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic, which affects economies and societies around the world. Participants agreed that Thailand’s interest is extensively connected to neighboring countries, and it is urgently necessary for Thailand to strengthen its cooperation with them in supporting each other to recover economies as well as protecting Thailand's interests in the subregion.
