Mr. Peeramet Wutthinetirak, the Director of the Neighbouring Countries Economic Development Cooperation Agency, and H.E. Vongsey Vissoth, the Minister attached to the Prime Minister & Permanent Secretary of State, Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF), mutually signed the loan agreement on improving Road No. 67 in Siem Reap- Anlong Veng-Juam/Sangam in the Kingdom of Cambodia. The objectives of the mentioned project are to promote the expansions of border trades, deliveries, investments and tourism in Thailand and Cambodia, especially the areas related to the project; to support linking the domestic routes in Phnom Penh-Siem Reap- Banteay Meanchey on Highway No. 6 in Cambodia and important routes linking Thailand and Vietnam in the Southern Economic Corridor (SEC) in the the Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS) and AH1 highway through NR5 highway; and to promote trips, cultural and traditional exchanges, border trade expansions, deliveries, investments and tourism between the countries. The mentioned route developments consider the Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG), especially the social developments and the significant preventions of environmental effects, because the projects are conducted along the existing routes. The two main highways’ all surfaces are improved into alphatic concrete (AC) surfaces according to the road network development plans of Cambodia.
Regarding the mentioned projects, the cabinet approved the Thai and Cambodian governments to drive the improvements of NR67 Road with the budget of 983 million baht on 23rd August 2022. The conditions state that the percentage of the materials and equipment under the Thai projects must not be lower than 50 of the agreement value. Moreover, Thai construction contractors and engineering consultants must mainly conduct the projects. The construction period will be about two years in order to support Thai entrepreneurs to expand their businesses to neighboring countries.
