NEDA Visits Stung Bot Permanent Border Crossing Project Site in Preparation for Final Project Report

From July 30-31, 2024, Colonel (Ret.) Saranyu Viriyavejakul, D.Sc., Vice President of the Neighbouring Countries Economic Development Cooperation Agency (Public Organization) (NEDA), and NEDA representatives visited the site of the Stung Bot permanent border crossing project and the connecting road to National Road 5 in Cambodia. This project, funded by NEDA through a concessional loan to Cambodia, involved constructing a border checkpoint building and associated facilities with a budget of 862.28 million baht. The project aims to alleviate traffic congestion and improve logistics at the Ban Khlong Luek Border Checkpoint Station in Poipet and support trade and investment expansion. The construction was completed in 2023.
During the visit, the NEDA delegation met with representatives from the Ministry of Public Works and Transport of Cambodia (MPWT), led by H.E. Phy Sophort, Under Secretary of State and Deputy Project Director, as well as the Cambodian Immigration Department and Customs Department. They assessed the completion of the project, including the border checkpoint building, staff accommodations, cargo handling stations, and drainage improvements to prevent flooding. They also interviewed local residents, cross-border truck drivers, and logistics operators after the soft operation launch of the Stung Bot border crossing point.
