Quelicai, Timor-Leste, 15 August 2025 — At the Maternal and Child Health Center for Basic Emergency Obstetric and Newborn Care (BEmONC) in Quelicai, Baucau Province, Mr. Perames Vudthitornetiraks, President of the Neighbouring Countries Economic Development Cooperation Agency (Public Organization) (NEDA), led a delegation to conduct an on-site visit. The mission was carried out in collaboration with representatives from the Royal Thai Embassy in Dili and the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA).
The visit included an inspection of the old BEmONC facility in Quelicai, which is one of the centers supported by NEDA for upgrading and development. The project is designed to accommodate expectant mothers during pregnancy and delivery, ensuring safer maternal care and improved newborn health outcomes. It is expected that the upgraded facility will significantly reduce maternal and infant mortality rates.
Beyond the construction of a new facility, the BEmONC Project also provides medical equipment, essential medicines, and a fully equipped ambulance to strengthen operational capacity. The NEDA delegation was warmly welcomed by representatives of Baucau Province,
