STOCKHOLM, MAY 6, 2026 — The Board of Directors of the Neighbouring Countries Economic Development Cooperation Agency (Public Organization), or NEDA Board of Directors, led by Mr. Theeraj Athanavanich, Chairman of the Board, attended a briefing and site visit regarding sustainable urban planning at the Stockholm Royal Seaport. Mr. Örjan Lönngren, Energy and Climate Policy Analyst from the City of Stockholm, served as the guest speaker and guided the delegation through the project.
The Stockholm Royal Seaport project is one of the largest sustainable urban development initiatives in Europe, located in the heart of Stockholm, Sweden. Managed by the City of Stockholm since 2009,the project involves converting underutilized industrial areas into a residential and office district comprising 2,400 households. The urban design is based on five core principles: creating a vibrant city for all; ensuring convenient transportation where residents can easily access shops, schools, hospitals, and essential daily locations; resource efficiency; the implementation of an automated vacuum waste collection system (Envac) that transports different types of waste automatically to management facilities, thereby reducing labor costs for waste collection and minimizing environmental impact; establishing green connectivity with nearby forests and national parks; and emphasizing resident participation and learning.
This study visit was highly beneficial to the NEDA Board of Directors, providing knowledge and experience that can be applied to the implementation of environmentally friendly and energy-efficient projects, incorporating sustainable construction practices and the use of eco-friendly materials.
